Lady Cosmology continued trainer Simon Miller’s hot streak in the Supremacy Stakes (1000m) when she set a race record to win the Listed race on debut at Ascot yesterday.
Sending an ominous warning to her rivals ahead of next month’s Karrakatta Plate (1200m), Lady Cosmology showed gate speed to lead from barrier four for jockey, William Pike.
After withstanding a challenge from hot favourite, Agent Pippa, at the top of the straight, Lady Cosmology kicked clear to defeat Princess Pierro by two lengths.
Agent Pippa, resuming since her slashing victory last October, battled away to finish third, just ahead of Emerald Rose, who stormed home powerfully from last position.
Lady Cosmology’s time of 58.17sec. broke Denmarket’s record of 58.67sec. set in 2005.
Lady Cosmology added to Miller’s imposing Karrakatta Plate stocks, joining Driftstar and Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winner, Valour Road, as his previous juvenile winners this season.
Lady Cosmology is raced by Peter Walsh from Amelia Park, former Eagles vice-captain, Michael Brennan, 1980 Richmond premiership hero, Robert Wiley and WA Hall Of Fame jockey, Rod Kemp.
The daughter of Universal Ruler gave Miller, rated one of Perth’s best trainers of two-year-olds, his third consecutive victory in the Supremacy Stakes and fifth in total.
Miller won previously with Single Spice (2011), Miss Solis (2012), Whispering Brook (2016) and Seannie (2017).
“She is a good filly and there were no surprises in what she did,” Miller said.
“She will probably go to the Gimcrack, but I will let the dust settle.
“I’m leaning going straight to the Karrakatta.
“She has so much ability and I have no reason to show her off.”
