The finest of the Western Australian thoroughbred yearling crop will congregate at the 2021 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale over Thursday 18 and Friday 19 February at the Magic Millions world-class sales complex in the Swan Valley.
Regarded as one of the best producing auctions in Australasia, Magic Millions has brought together a quality catalogue of 303 lots for the 2021 Perth sale.
The variety of stock on offer has 72 individual sires, with 216 lots eligible for the lucrative Westspeed Platinum scheme and a further 70 for the base level of Westspeed. All lots offered are also eligible to be paid up for the $12.8 million Magic Millions Race Series.
Magic Millions Perth Manager David Houston said the sales already conducted in Australasia are extremely buoyant and he is looking forward to the same trend continuing in Perth.
“The 2021 catalogue is a very strong representation of Western Australian bred yearlings and most eligible for very rewarding Westspeed and Westspeed Platinum bonuses’,” David said.
“Perth sale graduates have been performing extremely well and include Stakes winners Samazat, Portland Sky, and All Banter in the last couple of weeks.”
“I encourage everyone to get out to the Swan Valley Magic Millions sales complex and inspect the yearlings, there is sure to be plenty of winners there at all price levels.”
Ninety-five per cent of yearlings in the 2021 sale are eligible for the Westspeed or Westspeed Platinum scheme as a further boost for local buyers.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) General Manager Racing Charlotte Mills said the Westspeed initiatives support and promote local WA thoroughbred breeding and racing activities.
“The Westspeed scheme has grown to distribute bonuses of approximately $8 million each year, and with further enhancements announced in late 2019, it is expected to distribute more than $12 million to owners and breeders annually from FY21 to FY23,” Charlotte said.
“Providing these additional earning opportunities to qualified thoroughbreds ensures that breeding, owning, and racing a Westspeed horse in WA is one of the best value-for-money horse ownership prospects in Australia.”
In 2019 RWWA announced the following enhancements to be implemented to the Westspeed scheme:
- Additional bonuses paid to second and third place for races with $25,000 and over in prizemoney.
- Westspeed Platinum four-year-old horses to receive a 50% bonus for all races under 1750m.
- Breeders to receive an additional $2,000 Perth Magic Millions Sales credit for Platinum winners in races with $50,000 and over in prizemoney.
- Further bonuses introduced for Westspeed Platinum horses for races with under $50,000 in prizemoney.
In 2020 the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale resulted in a 66% increase in gross results, with Lot 166, half-sister of Quilista, the sale’s top seller going for $240,000.
