HANNANS HANDICAP OVERVIEW

Kalgoorlie’s feature sprint race, the Hannans Handicap, was first run in March 1897 and won by Laura.

There were two Hannan races staged in 1897 with Common going on to win five months later in August.

Notable winners include Lorna’s Nuisance who won the race in three consecutive years: (1977-78-79).

Saltilo and Perplex dead-heated in 1905.

Seven-year-olds have recorded seven wins in this time frame including in three straight years: McLurch (2009), King Kool Kat (2010) & Black George (2011).

Geldings have dominated the race with 25 wins including the past 10 years.

Ellicorsam (2004) and Keyton Grace (2007) are only two mares successful.
