2016 Chester Manifold Stakes result – All the way for Tudor

Darren Gauci and Tudor led all the way to land Saturday’s Listed $120,000 Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Gauci took full advantage of barrier two and the minimum 54kg to bounce Tudor straight to the front with favourite Tried And Tired settling in second place on his quarters.
Tudor ($14) was clear around the home turn and while Tried And Tired ($3.80 fav.) chased gamely, he could only close to within half a length on the line.
“He jumped great and relaxed for me,” Gauci said. “That made the difference. When we picked the tempo up into the straight he dug deep and it was a good strong win.”
Trainer Doug Harrison praised jockey and horse.
“It was a great ride, he’s a genius in the lead and the horse deserved that,” Harrison said.
“Last start here he over-raced so we took the blinkers off him and today he settled,
“He’s always given me the indication he could run 1400 (metres) but he’s had no luck,
“Today I thought he looked magnificent and he was lovely and free in the lead. He’s a lovely horse and it’s terrific for him to land the Listed win.”
Harrison is unsure as to future plans for the four-year-old son of Strategic.
“We had planned to run him in the 1200 metre races but now he’s shown he can settle we will have a look at the calendar and see what the options are.” Harrison said.
Zupacharged ($4.80) was beaten 1 1/2-lengths into third, the trip completed in 1:22.70.
