Another Love made the best possible start to her career at Belmont on Wednesday, prompting trainer Trevor Andrews to declare she’s a promising filly with huge upside after winning on debut.
Andrews is eyeing bigger target races for Another Love, who was strong from start to finish when leading throughout for star jockey William Pike in the Western Racepix 10 Year Anniversary Plate (1200m).
“We always thought that probably 1400m or the mile would be more to her liking,” Andrews said.
“I think in time over more ground she could be a nice filly.
“She’s quite relaxed, not too aggressive and is out of a family that sort of gets a nice mile.
“There is plenty of upside for her.
“Those races, the Champion Filles (1600m) and Burgess Queen (1400m) could be some nice races for her.”
Another Love made an immediate return for owners who shelled out $62,500 at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling sale.
She’s a daughter of Lucky Street, previously trained by Andrews. who won four feature races including the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
Another Love stepped out for the first time on the back of a dominant trial victory, but after she opened at $4, she eased to $6 with Tabtouch punters.
Andrews had no doubt she would run a top race first-up, but his chief concern was jumping out from barrier eight, the second widest gate.
“She galloped real good on Saturday morning,” Andrews said.
“Shaun O’Donnell rode her and said she had come on since the trial.
“She drew a bit awkward, so we weren’t overly confident.
“She had to do a bit of work to get there but toughed it out really well.
“I was happy with the horse going into it.”
Another Love launched a winning treble for Pike, who claimed his 14th Perth Jockey’s Premiership in the final meeting of the 2023-24 season.
Pike reached 108 metropolitan winners on Made In Mexico for trainer Adam Durrant and Wayne The Pain, prepared by Misty Bazeley.
The G3 Champion Filles Stakes is run at Ascot on November 16.
The Listed Burgess Queen Stakes is staged at the same course 11 days earlier.
