The anticipation of racing at Ascot Racecourse continues throughout the month of April with the staging of another community and very special meeting to be held on the last day of the Ascot 2014/2015 racing season.

On ANZAC Day, Saturday 25th April, Perth Racing is honoured to commemorate the Centenary of World War I and the Gallipoli Landing and committed to bringing family tradition back to the racecourse. It has engaged with local community and defence groups to establish and deliver raceday and commemorative experiences for generations of families.

Following dawn services across Perth, a memorial service will be held on the front lawn of the Ascot Grandstand after midday in which will include a Catafalque Party, wreath laying service, minutes’ silence, and a recital of the ode with a rendition of the Last Post. Volunteers of Legacy will be oncourse to sell pins and patrons will be provided with a sprig of rosemary to be worn on the lapel to show their respects, courtesy of Perth Racing.

A friendly game of ‘Two Up’ will return to Ascot after a thirty year absence following the State Government approving the play of two-up at RSL Clubs and other venues. The Casino Agreement Act 1985 prevented the play of any authorised casino games (including two-up) within 200 kilometres of the then Burswood Casino. In 2011 it was shortened to 100km and today many patrons and punters oncourse will be able to enjoy a traditional Australian game, “Come in Spinner”. Proceeds will go to the local Belmont RSL.

Fans of racing will be pleased by the 8-race programme which includes the 1,800m Digger’s Cup, a race that shall always be remembered as we pay homage to our fallen diggers.

Gates open at 9am with free entry for all former and current Defence personnel in uniform or upon presentation of Defence ID. Wearing of medals are welcomed.
