Apprentice Jake Bayliss became the latest rider suspended for a whip offence at Tuesday’s Stony Creek meeting.
Bayliss received a seven-meeting suspension for over-use of the whip on the winner Our Delinquent in the Foster Exchange Hotel Maiden Plate (1600m).
Stewards deemed Bayliss used the whip seven times before the 100m, two more than allowed, before the Shea Eden-trained galloper strode to a comfortable win.
Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge of breaching AR137(A) before stewards suspended him from midnight on Wednesday until midnight on February 16.
Stewards considered Bayliss’s poor record in which he has “offended and been penalised significantly on four previous occasions”.
Stewards told Bayliss they would take stronger action after his last whip offence before living up to that warning with a suspension.
Tasmanian apprentice Sigrid Carr was suspended for a whip infraction at Monday’s Hobart Cup meeting.
