Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds had race-favourite Our Boy Nicholas spot on for the Carlton Mid 2015 Coffs Harbour Gold Cup (1600m) and a patient ride by Brenton Avdulla produced a stunning win.

Three runs back from a spell over shorter distances gave Our Boy Nicholas ($4.20 fav) the grounding to tackle a fast-run mile and despite spotting the leaders a big break turning for home, once Avdulla got to the outside it was a one-act affair.

The More Than Ready five-year-old rounded up his opposition in a twinkling before powering away for a clear-cut three length win.

Ken Lantry’s Got Unders ($7.50) finished second after enjoying a handy run throughout while the Liam Birchley-trained Hard Ticker ($26) was a further 1-1/4 lengths away in third.

Our Boy Nicholas began his career in Sydney under the care of Gai Waterhouse. But after five Sydney starts produced only a maiden win at Canterbury, the horse was transferred north.

The win in Thursday’s $85,000 Coffs Harbour Cup made it six wins from 14 starts under the guidance of Edmonds.

Avdulla made a big impression winning the two feature races on the card.

“I kept him comfortable,” Avdulla told Sky Thoroughbred Central. “I stoked him up before the corner and when I got to the outside I knew he would run over them so got him through his gears.”

Apart from the Cup, Avdulla also scored an easy win aboard the Allan Denham-trained Aroused in the $25,000 Daniel Baker Sprint (1200m).
