Budding apprentice Kate Fitzgerald is the latest recipient of the Western Australian Racing Trainer’s Association (WARTA) and Bio-John monthly encouragement award.
Fitzgerald, indentured to David Harrison, commenced riding in February and a month later celebrated her maiden success on Tashi Delek at Norseman.
The promising young rider enjoyed further success at Port Hedland and Broome but it was at Carnarvon where she stamped her prominence.
Fitzgerald teamed up with trainer David Black and Redoubtable gelding Kardy to take out the Peter Evans Memorial Handicap-Carnarvon Cup double.
Black lauded praise on Fitzgerald’s performances and was impressed by her calmness and composure in tight finishes to both races.
Fitzgerald is busy preparing for the Albany Racing Club season where she is on loan to experienced trainer, Mark Nelson.
The first of 14 Albany Racing Club meetings kicks off on Sunday, November 2.
