2014/15 THOROUGHBRED DISTRIBUTION
Over the coming weeks the RWWA board is expected to approve further increases in distribution to the Western Australian thoroughbred industry for the 2014/15 racing season.
In line with the RWWA vision, distribution to stakeholders will be through the form of increased Prizemoney at all levels of racing. Further information will be released as the approvals are granted.
NEW APPOINTMENTS
In recent weeks two new employees have begun their respective positions in the RWWA Thoroughbred Racing Department.
James Ryan and Jack Young both commenced their respective roles in April. Both have a family background in the thoroughbred racing industry.
LATE SCRATCHINGS
There is anecdotal evidence that some Trainers who fail to scratch by the prescribed acceptance time are naming a rider and then later scratching the horse so that rider is paid an engagement fee.
This practice is being monitored by racing department staff and if the practice continues, Stewards will be asked to take action against Trainers. RWWA will also give further consideration to increasing the late scratching fee.
Where a horse is scratched after the prescribed acceptance time and before closing of final riders, the scratching fee has been revised downwards to $110 (including GST). This revised fee will apply for all race meetings on or after 1 April 2014.
NOMINATING OF JOCKEYS ON TRIAL HORSES
At the request of the WAJA, trainers are reminded that when nominating for trials, they are encouraged to name their riders.
By doing this the RWWA Racing Department can attempt to put horses with the same rider in separate trials. This allows for less confusion on trial morning.
INTERNET NOMINATIONS
All trainers are encouraged to make use of the Internet Racing Office for the lodging of nominations online. This service is very easy to use and can be activated with a simple phone call to the Racing Department. All you require is a valid email address and an internet connection.
A confirmation email is sent immediately after nominations are lodged online via the racing office to confirm your entries have been received by the Racing Department.
Many Trainers are now taking advantage of this convenient and very easy to use service.
