Tony Gollan equalled a Brisbane training record on Saturday from the deck of yacht cruising the Greek Islands then went one better by winning the first race at Doomben on Sunday.

The victory of Most Important at the Sunshine Coast meeting gave Gollan 78 metropolitan winners for the Brisbane season, matching the total achieved by the late Bruce McLachlan and Danglissa Girl gave Gollan the record outright when she won the Hosken Site Steel 2YO Maiden (1200m) on Sunday.

Gollan is holidaying with wife Jane in Greece and told The Brisbane Sunday Mail from Santorini he was humbled to achieve the total.

“Bruce McLachlan is an icon in our sport so I am just so humbled to share his record,” Gollan said.

“At this time of the racing season there is a lot of focus on premierships and records, and it has been a bit tricky recently to get winners to be able to get closer to this record.

“We have had plenty of ups and downs in our stable this season and it really has been a team effort to be able to produce so many winners.

“Jane and I will have a few champagnes on the catamaran and then we will be back to work in Brisbane on Wednesday.”
