In a week of retirements, the 2014 Group I Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake has joined the list and will head to the breeding barn.
Godolphin’s Exceed And Excel three-year-old filly has run her last race and has been retired.
A five-time winner with one Group I victory to her name, Earthquake was an electrifying two-year-old.
Trained by Peter Snowden, she scored on debut at Randwick by 2-1/2 lengths before proceeding to win her next three starts, including the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
Sent out favourite in the 2014 Golden Slipper on the back of her undefeated record, she was edged out in a classic contest on heavy ground by the Hawkes-trained mudlark, Mossfun.
Earthquake was competitive as a three-year-old but never regained her dominant juvenile form, winning a Group III event at Caulfield and finishing an unlucky fifth in the Group I William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 15 this year.
That race turned out to be her last.
