Kersley Extends Lead In Rising Stars

Fred Kersley has a strong hold on the Touchstone Farm Rising Star series after he arrived with a well-timed run on Slick Talker in the final event at Ascot’s season-opening meeting on Saturday.

After a third placing with Pinzu and a runner-up finish aboard favourite Necklet earlier, Kersley had the David Harrison-trained gelding midfield before he peeled out on straightening.

Jessica Gray continued her climb up the leader board, rising to second position after a successful weekend teaming up with trainer, Steele Casey.

The Gray and Casey partnership collected their second feature race in the space of a week after Avidus proved too strong for his rivals in the Laverton Cup.

The Viscount gelding led all the way over 1600m and defeated O’Reilly’s Crumpet by 3 ¾ lengths with Sea Tryst close behind in third place.

Avidus has won three of his past four starts including last Saturday’s Leinster Cup when Gray had him settled in the back half of the field.

Gray shared the riding honours with Casey Hunter who advanced to 21 points after a double, steering home Yousha Dua and Jebel Musa for trainer, David Smith.
