Merv Dellar says Kronfeld will go trial when he travels to Perth for the first occasion and tackles the Tabtouch-Home of Racing & Sport Handicap (2000m)

Dellar is keen to test Kronfeld over a middle distance journey with a view of targeting the Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) and Boulder Cup (2100m) later this year.

“I think he is looking for further and I want to test him over more ground,” said Dellar.

“This will give me a good gauge because he has never been beyond 1760m.

“There is a 2100m Kalgoorlie race in about six weeks’ time but that’s too far away.

“If he gets through as I think he will I can start planning for some of the bigger races.

“It’s not going to be easy and it’s hard enough to win a race in Kalgoorlie let alone Perth.

“But it’s worth having a crack and will give me a guide on future plans with the horse.”

Kronfeld, previously with John Thompson in Sydney, emerged 12 months ago when he tied with Saxon Coast in Kalgoorlie’s Horse of the Year honours.

The son of Murtajill won six races from nine starts and ran a creditable four to Express Service when beaten 2 ¼ lengths in the Coolgardie Cup (1760m).

He has yet to reach the same strike rate this year with three placings from four starts, but Dellar remains upbeat about his form.

“Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and he just hasn’t had that luck you need,” said Dellar.

“At his first couple of starts I thought he ran on well and hit the line hard and last time he just didn’t get any momentum.

“He is a horse that grinds away and you have to give him galloping room where he can wind up into his races.

“I certainly haven’t been disappointed by his form this preparation,”

Kronfeld meets a field of 13 rivals including last-start winners, Virtual Trader, Bravo Romeo, Savonarola and Balmaya

Leading owner Bob Peters has a strong hand in the race with Dark Delight, who is approaching peak fitness and Ultimate Success, racing first up.

Raising Dubai raced wide throughout when a gallant second to Virtual Trader and will appreciate the step up from the mile.

Kronfeld has drawn barrier two for jockey, Troy Turner.
