Perth vendors emerged from the doldrums to deliver a positive outcome at the Perth Magic Millions yearling sale on Monday and Tuesday.

After a disappointing sale twelve months ago, the local industry got right behind this year’s auction and welcomed turnover of $10.42 million which was up $1.20 million with 50 less lots catalogued.

The average price of $41,059 was a 9.10% increase and the clearance rate jumped 12 points to 80%.

“Full credit to the industry in Western Australia as a whole – they recognised they were in a bit of trouble and got in and supported the Sale,” Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said. “RWWA really pushed it along and so did our own (Perth-based team) David Houston and Cassie Norris.”

Local buyers dominated the leader-board with agent John Chalmers topping the list with 7 lots for an overall spend of $762,500. He was followed by Trevor Andrews (7 – $610,000), Neville Parnham Racing (10 – $597,000) and Dan Morton (8 – $516,000).

Top-price among the 254 lots that changed hands was the Street Cry – Verse colt (pictured) purchased by trainer Gary Moore from Yarradale Stud. He’s a half-brother to Lamasery who won 11 races up to the G2 Hill Stakes at Rosehill and it’s also the family of Woodlands Stud’s Group 1 sprinter Yell.

The leading sire by average (three or more sold) was Commands on $108,000. The leading vendor (turnover) was Mungrup Stud ($1,229,000 for 36 sold) and leading vendor (average) was Amelia Park ($93,167 for 6 sold).
