In-form jockey Jade McNaught has made a flying start to the 2019 Rising Stars’ Apprentice series after posting a double at Geraldton on Thursday.
McNaught won aboard the Graeme Hammarquist-trained Freez’emoff and Bay Publisher for Tony Scally, taking her to the top of the points table.
She holds a five point lead over Kristy Bennett, who led all the way on Admiral Husson and ran third placings with Shadablaze and Absolute Magic.
Visiting Mauritian jockey, Brandon Louis, sits in third position after partnering Galaxy Blaze to victory.
McNaught’s success at Geraldton quickly followed on the heels of her first Ascot double on Wednesday when she booted home Bill’s O’Reilly and Geiger Gem.
Despite not coming from a racing background, McNaught has quickly established a reputation as one of Perth’s leading apprentice riders.
She is fast closing in on a milestone 50 winners for the 2018-19 season, recording seven city wins, 28 in the provincials and 12 in the country.
The Rising Star Series comprises 28 races and concludes at Northam on May 5.
Seven points are allocated for riding a winner, two for second and one for third.
