If Aaron Mitchell dares to dream he could be in line to play a major role at Ascot in a fortnight.

The young jockey will ride Valour Road in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and Modern News in the Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m).

Mitchell will be super keen to reunite with Valour Road who resumes after a brilliant winning debut at Pinjarra in February.

Sent to the front by Mitchell, the $60,000 yearling scored a dominant 1 ¼ length victory in the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1100m).

Valour Road, from the powerful Simon Miller stable, showed he was on track for the Karrakatta Plate with an easy trial win on Tuesday.

Under Mitchell’s guidance the Frost Giant gelding stretched out strongly over the final stages and won by 3 ½ lengths at Belmont.

“I was really pleased and it was just good to let his head go,” Mitchell told Tabradio’s The Sports Daily.

“He just impresses me every time I ride him and gives me a great feel.

“I’m pretty confident heading towards the Karrakatta Plate.”

Mitchell believes Modern News can turn the tables after running second to Friar Fox in Saturday’s Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m).

Friar Fox consolidated Oaks favouritism with a dominant 2 ¾ length victory, but Mitchell says Modern News will be better suited over increased ground.

“I wasn’t able to rider her last start because she carried 54kg,” Mitchell said.

“Look she ran super on Saturday.

“She is going to be competitive, especially stepping up to 2400m.”

Valour Road is currently quoted $10 in the Karrakatta Plate.  Stable mate Lady Cosmology holds $3.50 TABtouch favouritism.

Modern News, prepared by Julie Clements, is $15 in the WA Oaks.

Mitchell will be hoping for Karrakatta Plate redemption after Seannie ran a luckless sixth as favourite in last year’s $500,000 feature.
