Morton’s Secret Is Out

Dan Morton’s exciting three-year-old Sophia’s Secret took another giant stride towards the Group 3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) in November with another dominant display at Ascot on Wednesday.

After crossing from a wide barrier and taking up the lead for Chris Parnham in the Lycopodium Limited Handicap (1400m), the Written Tycoon filly bolted clear in the straight to score by 1 ½ lengths.

It brought up back-to-back wins for Sophie’s Secret and her second from three career starts after she produced a carbon-copy victory when resuming first-up over 1200m at Ascot on October 17.

“A nice filly going forward,” said Morton.

“Right from the get go we thought she was better than average.

“Her aim has been the Champion Fillies and we were keen to take another little step today (Wednesday).

“Hopefully it’s onto the Burgess Queen on Cup Day (November 7) and the Champion Fillies if all goes well.”

Parnham, who has partnered Sophia’s Secret to both wins this campaign, said there was further improvement to come.

“She is really nice horse,” Parnham said.

“Her two wins she has been leading and I don’t think that is her go.

“To do what she is doing is very impressive and I think you will see a better horse when she can get some cover.

“Hopefully she can keep on improving.”
