Jameka ($4.60) defeated the John Thompson-trained Honesta ($8.50) by 2-1/4 lengths with the John O’Shea-trained Ambience ($4 fav) peaking on her run 200m from home, finishing third beaten 3-1/2 lengths. Maher also won last year’s Crown Oaks with Set Square.
This is what the jockeys thought of the performance of their rides in the Crown Oaks.
Place | Horse | Jockey | Comment |
1st | JAMEKA | Damien Oliver | I thought no one would want to take it up but I wasn’t going to hesitate to be the one. I had a lot of faith in this filly’s ability. She was going easily a long way from home. |
2nd | HONESTA | Craig Williams | The winner was good so take nothing away from the winner. But I felt if I had a more favourable draw I could have followed it I could have turned the tables. |
3rd | AMBIENCE | James McDonald | Went great. Gave me a beautiful ride. Had a lovely run in the race. She’ll be back even better. |
4th | PASADENA GIRL | Hugh Bowman | Too far. Didn’t stay. |
5th | DULVERTON | Dwayne Dunn | She ran very well. |
6th | THE GREY FLASH | Chris Parnham | Went very good. She’s just very dour. Happy with the performance. |
7th | SACRED EYE | Ryan Moore | Didn’t handle the conditions at all. Will be much better when gets back on the quicker ground. |
8th | PRINCESS ARIA | Michael Walker | Had her momentum stopped at the half-mile. Nice filly in the making. Got a future. |
9th | ZARABEEL | Stephen Baster | Didn’t handle the track. |
10th | RITZY | Kerrin McEvoy | Didn’t like the ground. |
Last | MUZYKA | Brenton Avdulla | Over-raced too bad. They went very slow. |
