Champion jockey Damien Oliver was one of two senior riders taken to hospital after a nasty fall at Thursday’s Bendigo meeting.

The Victorian Jockeys’ Association reported Oliver and Chris Symons both suffered concussion when falling from their respective mounts Mefnooda and Hampshire early in the Racing.com Maiden Plate (1100m).

Oliver also complained of neck soreness but has full movement.

Hampshire stumbled and fell after going 150m with Mefnooda unable to avoid the fallen runner, sending Oliver to the turf.

Jye McNeil also fell when his mount Adopted Opinion was caught in the backwash of the incident but the apprentice appears to have escaped injury.

The VJA will provide an update on the condition of all riders once full medical checks have been completed.
