Champion Western Australian jockey William Pike has accepted an invitation from the Singapore Turf Club to ride at the Stewards Cup meeting on Sunday.
Pike, to make his sixth visit to Singapore, has been booked to ride Countofmontecristo for trainer Michael Clements in the Group 2 Stewards’ Cup (1400m).
The 32-year-old has enjoyed success previously at Kranji, booting home four winners and running second in the Group 1 Singapore Derby and Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup.
Pike is on track to record his 10th Perth Jockey’s premiership, he currently sits on 107 wins and 62 clear of his next rival, Chris Parnham.
Pike, who has also ridden internationally in Hong Kong, is also a strong favourite to record his second consecutive national premiership title.
He leads with 168 wins from Brenton Avdulla (149) and retiring Brisbane jockey, Jeff Lloyd, (142) who is seven wins behind in third position.
Pike’s invitation to Singapore arrives just a fortnight after he set Belmont Park alight with a record equalling six winners.
His brilliant haul matched the feat of WA Hall Of Fame hoop, Frank Treen, who set the benchmark in 1967.
Pike and Treen are the only two jockeys in the modern era to have ridden six winners at a Perth meeting.
Pike boasts more than 1800 winners over a period of 15 seasons, including five at Group 1 and 43 at Group 2 and Group 3 level.
Countofmontecristo holds a record of seven wins and five placings from 13 starts.
Clements has won the Stewards Cup three times previously including last year with Alibi.
Clements has trained 26 winners this season and shares second place in the Singapore Trainers’ premiership.
