Boban carried the flag for Chris Waller during his emerging years, winning the 2013 Epsom Handicap (1600m) before taking that form to Flemington in securing the 2013 Emirates Stakes (1600m).

The son of Bernadini came back to win the 2014 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) before picking up two more Group I races in 2015 – the Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and Memsie Stakes (1400m).

Boban was retired from the racetrack earlier this year after suffering a second bleeding attack which incurs a lifetime ban in Australia.

The six-year-old won 11 of his 37 starts and amassed career prizemoney of more than $2.8 million.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful group of owners as well as the punters and race followers, as together we have had a thoroughly enjoyable experience,” Waller said when Boban was retired.

Glyn Schofield rode Boban for all five Group I victories.

“He was a special horse to me,” Schofield said. “We had a great record together. He certainly grabbed a lot of headlines when he got it right.”

“Every time I rode him he knew that it was me.

“It was sad when he retired and this is truly sad news.”
