Popular country jockey Robert Thompson was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Thompson was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame only last month.
Known as Australia’s most winning jockey, Thompson has ridden in excess of 4000 winners during his 40-year riding career.
A laid back, no nonsense ‘bushie’, Thompson is still highly competitive in spite of his 57-years of maturity.
Thompson is sitting second on the New South Wales Country Jockey Premiership with 84-1/2 wins for the 2014/15 racing season, still within striking distance of current leader Greg Ryan on 94 wins.
Thompson is also comfortably placed within the top 10 jockeys for the New South Wales Jockey Premiership with 88-1/2 winners so far this season.
