A strong trackwork gallop at Bunbury on Thursday has given trainer Ross Price additional confidence that Arctic Stream can win the Listed Furphy Bunbury Cup (2000m) on Sunday.
The High Chaparral five-year-old is out to claim consecutive feature race victories after winning the Listed Detonator Stakes (1800m) at Ascot two weeks ago.
“I was really pleased with his work,” Price told The Sports Daily.
“He has come through the Detonator really well.
“We’ve just kept him fresh in the water and he has pulled up really good.
“I’m looking forward to Sunday.”
Price is confident there will be enough tempo in the Bunbury Cup to suit Arctic Stream.
Wrinkly, a noted frontrunner, is the likely leader after drawing perfectly in barrier one.
Arctic Stream will settle in the back half of the field from barrier 12
“I think over the 2000 metres they will go fairly quickly to get to the first corner,” Price said.
“I think it will be a fairly good run race and it does suit him (Arctic Stream) as he needs the pace on.
“He will get back a little bit and runs his best races from there.
“I won’t be giving too many instructions to Paul Harvey, he knows him pretty well.”
Price believes Spiritual Warrior will pose a big threat to Arctic Stream, despite top weight of 59kg.
He also doesn’t discount Michael Lane capping an outstanding week with Plays The Game.
The 2018 Pinjarra Cup (2300m) champion can share the spotlight with stable mate Free Trade who was a brilliant winner of the Bunbury Stakes (1400m) on Wednesday.
