RWWA Stewards, Perth Racing Officials and WA Jockey’s Association members inspected the Belmont Park race track at 7am this afternoon. 51mm of rainfall has fallen at the racecourse since Wednesday, including 30mm recorded in the last 24 hours.
This inspection found a significant area of track near the 600m to be waterlogged and was deemed by Stewards to be unsuitable for racing. Consequently today’s Belmont Park race meeting was abandoned.
Perth Racing will undertake remedial works on this section of track ahead of the next scheduled meeting on Wednesday. Stewards will conduct a further track inspection following completion of this work.
The Idyllic Prince Stakes [LR] has been added to Wednesday’s Belmont Park meeting to form a nine race card. This will be considered a fresh race and entries re-opened to allow additional horses to be nominated. Entries for the race will close at 9.30am on Sunday, 23 August. Those horses accepting for today’s race will be automatically re-entered. As this is considered a fresh race, a new barrier draw will be conducted when the revised field is released tomorrow.
Furthermore, a rating 66+ Handicap 1000m has been added to next Saturday’s race programme at Belmont Park. RWWA and Perth Racing will look to divide a further race on this programme if excess entries are received.
