Tenth Stakes Winner For Oratorio

Oratorio (Aus) has sired his 10th stakes-winner to underline a marvellous afternoon for Mungrup Stud on the Kingston Town Classic card at Ascot.

The Trevor Andrews trained Palace Intruder sent Oratorio into double-figures when returning to winning form in the LR Aquanita Stakes (1800m).  He was coming off mediocre performances in the LR Belgravia Stakes and LR Placid Ark Stakes and was unwanted by punters at $31.

“Although we were caught three-wide, he switched off and relaxed,” visiting jockey Tommy Berry said.  “He was stepping up from 1200 metres but Trevor had him nice and fit.”

Palace Intruder (3g Oratorio – Palace Alice by Palace Music) is a half-brother to 2010 Perth Cup hero Lords Ransom (Jeune) and he will be spelled and set for the G2 WATC Derby (2400m) in April.

Andrews bought him for $120,000 from Mungrup Stud (as agent) at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions for a syndicate that includes the trainer, Ken Gregson, Isaac Cohen, Ross Drage and their wives.  They have shared $203,000 in prizemoney since his career started with back-to-back victories at Ascot earlier this year.

The Kingston Town meeting commenced with Mungrup graduate Benito (Due Sasso) improving his strike-rate to 6 wins from his last 8 starts for trainer David Harrison.

Oratorio came close to siring another stakes winner when Outlaw Pete was beaten a half-length in the G3 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic before Watermans Bay weighed in with more black-type for the Great Southern nursery.

Watermans Bay turned the tables on Magnifisio in the G3 Scahill Stakes (1400m).  He had been runner-up to the star mare in the G1 Winterbottom Stakes on Super Saturday.

A son of Eternity Range, he has been a wonderful money-spinner for owner-breeders John and Sharon Molloy winning 9 races and more than $867,000.  They lost his dam Parisian Princess (Ron Bon) shortly after she foaled a Dick Turpin colt this time last year.

Eternity Range (Majestic Light) arrived at Mungrup in 2000.  He was a stakes winner at Saint-Cloud and Santa Anita and is from a half-sister to champion sire Miswaki.
