Troy Turner is upbeat about Misty Metal turning the tables on Flirtini in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.

The experienced jockey officially rode Misty Metal for the first time in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) when she ran second to Flirtini first-up.

Turner’s bid for a second Colonel Reeves Stakes victory comes as a result of regular rider Shaun McGruddy sustaining a back injury.

Flirtini and Misty Metal are locked in a battle for Tab favouritism with the former at $2.50 and the latter rated a $2.70 chance.

Stageman, who placed third behind Flirtini and Misty Metal in the Prince Of Wales Stakes, is the only other runner in single figures ($3.50).

Turner, a winner of the Colonel Reeves Stakes with Terwilliger (1999), believes Misty Metal will improve on her first-up run.

“I worked her on Tuesday and she has really come on since that run,” Turner said.

“I think that she has got that bit of improvement with that race start.

“I’m hoping we can get into the winners circle.”

Misty Metal has drawn barrier five and maps to lead the race, but Turner said he has other options.

Flirtini, to be ridden by Paul Harvey, will jump from barrier 11.

“We will play it as it comes,” Turner said.

“If she is in front good and well.

“If someone goes silly we will have the drop on them.”

With Simon Miller electing to scratch Valour Road from the Colonel Reeves Stakes, his representation rests with Flirtini and Market Ruler.

Miller said with top weight of 59.5kg, a wide draw and the forecast of hot temperatures, Valour Road was on a hiding to nothing.

The Frost Giant gelding will trial at Lark Hill on Monday in preparation for the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) on November 30.

Miller left no one in doubt over his opinion of Flirtini

“I don’t know where she will be from the gate,” Miller said.

“As long as she is not being bustled for position that will enable her to let rip.

“The scary thing about her is she is more effective at 1100m and 1200m, more so than a 1000m.

“She is an exciting prospect.”

Market Ruler is a $15 chance and a winner of the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) in June.

Miller advises supporters to discount her recent trial when she ran last behind Valour Road.
