The $15,325 earned by the win of Loiret in The Grange Maiden Plate at Gosford resulted in Waller becoming the first trainer to earn more than $30 million in an Australian racing season.

Loiret was Waller’s 272nd win of the season and took his earnings to $30,000,325 for the 2015/16 racing season.

His flagship horse was Winx, undefeated during 2015/16, earning $5,627,500 from her seven wins.

To highlight the achievement, Waller’s main national rival, champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir, who recently broke the national record for the most Australian winners in a season has earned $21,397,290.

Weir has trained 337-1/2 winner this season which includes the $3.8 million earned by Prince Of Penzance from his win in Australia’s richest race, the Melbourne Cup.

Last season, Waller had 223 winners and reaped a return of $26.6 million.

Interestingly 10 seasons ago Lee Freedman was the top Australian prizemoney trainer with his earnings totalling $16,056,150.

Waller requires another five Sydney metropolitan winners from the remaining three city programs to eclipse his Sydney training record of 167-1/2 winners set in the 2012/13 season.
