Grant Williams has all but wrapped up the Bunbury Turf Club’s Leading Trainer premiership following the breakthrough win of Star Of Husson on Monday.
With just the May 1 meeting remaining before the 2013-14 season draws to a close, Williams holds a decisive four point advantage over Simon Foster.
Foster, keen to defend his title from last season, kept his faint hopes alive when Angel Wing flew home late to score in a tight three-way contest.
Barring a mishap it’s an almost unassailable lead for Williams with only one point allocated for each win.
The battle for third place is still very much up for grabs with co-trainers, Bruce and Gary Watkins and Peter and Matt Giadresco tied on six points.
Watkins and Hitchcock went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when I’m A Bluebagger and Bayella were edged out in close finishes.
