Perth Racing today confirmed that trains would be running to Perth Stadium Station to co-incide with the opening of the Winter Racing Season at Belmont Park this Saturday.
Perth Racing Managing Director, Prof John Yovich AM said, “We are delighted with the decision to run Armadale train lines to Perth Stadium Station in time for our winter season opening at Belmont Park this weekend.”

In celebration of the train line opening Prof Yovich has promised that anyone showing their public transport ticket at the gates of Belmont Park will get in free.

“Winter racing has a different atmosphere and is more relaxed. We want Perth people to enjoy this at Belmont Park and for that reason, if you get here by train, you get in for free,” Yovich said.

Trains will begin stopping at Perth Stadium Station during Saturday racing at Belmont Park starting this weekend, May 26. Armadale Line trains will start stopping between 10am and 6pm, well in advance of the first race (12.14pm) and with plenty of time for event goers to leave after the last race (4:35pm).

From June 30, services on the Armadale Line will stop at the station from the first train (about 5.15am Saturdays and 6.30am Sundays) until the last train each day (including the 2.15am and 3.15am ex-Perth late night trains).

The Armadale Line generally operates a 15 minute frequency on Saturdays and Sundays. Thornlie Line services will not stop at Perth Stadium Station – passengers will need to change to an Armadale service.

Next week’s June long weekend will see the first of the AFL and Winter Racing clashes with St Kilda and West Coast playing at Optus Stadium at 6.10pm and the last race finishing at 4.40pm.

“Next weekend is even better for sports lovers,” Yovich said, “Patrons can come and enjoy a day at the races and then pop across the road to see AFL footy. Being able to catch public transport will make it all a bit easier.”

“At Belmont Park we’ve got a couple of dining options, bars and a great grandstand for people to view the races from. We’ll also provide free entry to AFL Club Card holders, and of course, free entry to those who have public transport tickets on the day,” Yovich said.

Belmont Park winter racing starts this weekend, May 26th at Belmont Park. Race one starts at 12.14 with the final Race 8 starting at 4.35pm. Gates open at 9am.
