Apprentice Shaun O’Donnell Jnr is heading to New South Wales for a three month loan with Albury trainer, Brett Cavanough.
He will take his first ride on Saturday when he partners Retro Style in the Commercial Club Mahogany Bar Maiden Handicap (1400m).
The Testa Rossa mare is unplaced in three career starts and last appeared in February when second last to Sixpenny Flyer.
O’Donnell’s transfer comes with the blessing of host trainer, Dan Morton, who encouraged the young rider to make the move.
Morton is a life-long friend of Cavanough and believes the regional racing opportunities in New South Wales will fast-track O’Donnell’s career.
O’Donnell, who commenced his apprenticeship in October, leaves Perth on seven wins and 15 provincial placings from his 106 rides.
He posted his first win at Geraldton when he rated Moshayer to an all-the-way win for trainer Bruce Kay on November 15.
He has also recorded wins at Esperance and Albany.
